How hard is it to receive the classes you want for lsa? Does anyone have any tips or tricks to increase be likelihood of getting the classes you want if it is difficult?
My son is a freshman so has only registered for two semesters but he got all the classed he wanted.
2135ar, most of the times, only first term freshmen sometimes miss out on a class they want.
gregpuba, freshmen are sometimes locked out of a class they want, but it is not a major problem. Most freshmen get into the classes they want.
Last year, my D spent half a day during the orientation trying to fit everything on her schedule. She did get all required courses although not the best schedule and she could not pick the instructor she wants.
Yes, billcsho reminded me that last year a lot of kids, including my son, felt a lot of pressure picking classes at orientation. Not that the classes weren’t available, just there is a lot to decide and quickly. Nothing you can do about it except to try to look through classes before hand.
As a freshmen, you may not have access to everything because everyone else will have already registered for classes. But it’s not difficult to get the classes you want, however, it’s more likely that you might be taking the early morning class/section instead of the class that meets in the afternoon.
Thanks for all the help guys! Is it possible to select which professors you receive or is it random? Also, I’m considering applying to Ross; are there any classes you guys recommend taking besides the required courses that are interesting and/or not extremely work intensive?
When you pick a class you should know who the professor is because his or her name is listed in the course guide. I don’t believe you generally know who non-professors are, for example GSIs who teach a discussion group of a lecture course.
Knowing prof for Econ 101 is a must. All sections were full with the exception of one which was practically empty. Research showed this prof has been avoided for years. My daughter changed her intentions drastically to get around this situation…Do your homework here…
I never had a problem with it. If you register at your registration time you shouldn’t have problems, but if you wait a while you might.
The only time you might run into problems is your first semester if you’re registering for classes not often taken by freshmen, typically electives often taken after major classes. It’s very unlikely you’ll be looking at registering for any of those but in case you can get on the waitlist and ask the professor on the first day of classes.
