How hard is it to get into Berkeley from out of state?

Hanna: actually, when you get away from the U.S. News Rankings and start to look at reputations of Universities worldwide, UC-Berekley is considered to be among the best. See below link

[World University Rankings 2011-2012](World University Rankings 2011-12 | Times Higher Education (THE))

Cal does offer a joint medical program with direct transfer to UCSF, but it’s been around since the 70’s. (UC is big on non-trads.)

^^Part what he said is true though - you don’t need insanely high stats to get in, as shown in the post #20. Those stats seem comparable to those at schools like Georgetown or Notre Dame.

Anyone with < 3.0 has < 1% chance of being accepted, so in other words, you’re much more atypical. And I think they keep the door ajar mainly for athletes with < 3.0 gpa, which probably encompasses most of the 0.97% this group’s acceptance rate.

You sound an admit under the old comprehensive-exam route, but I don’t think this applies as much anymore. Nonetheless, good job on your ACT and SAT.

^ Pansytron made 1 post 7 years ago. I doubt that person still reads CC.

I often wonder how first time posters (like hanna) find 7 year old threads to post on…

Erin’s Dad, it’s also kind of odd to see a first-time post from a med student.

A belated thanks, Erin’s Dad. I’ll make a mental note to always read the date stamp. I was wondering why the thread had such a large readership for such a low no. of responses. And I’m sorry to have dredged it up again.
