how hard is it to get into good ib firms?

<p>i was just wondering... How hard is it to get into lucrative i banks, coming from a liberal arts school. Please offer statistics (how many are accepted out of the total number of applicants). I am torn between two entirely different career paths- med and business. Here are some pros and cons of both.
BUSINESS- I BANKING
pros- start earning decent money out of college, can make a lot more than medicine, can be an executive, not many years of studying although a lot of stress
cons- may not even get into a great IB firm bec of too much competition, may lose the job quickly, may not earn very well.</p>

<p>MED
pros- respectable, good thing to do (philanthropic), comfortable salary and job security.
cons- a lot of work (decade of studying and residency), may not pay as well as business depending on the field.</p>

<p>if u have gotten lost in this mumble jumble - the question I would like some one to answer is in the first couple of sentences. Sorry.</p>

<p>Extraordinarily hard. The top students from the top schools get consideration. After that there is a personality type, a look, the need to be very polished. Think Richard Gere. Easier in the back office, but the $$ isn't as good.</p>

<p>i go to Bates College- and I think if i follow this track, I will pursue its engineering program because it has a connection with dartmouth and columbia, etc. Do IB firms recruit from liberal arts colleges.</p>

<p>they recruit from the very top LACs...I don't know if Bates would be considered in that category. They are more commonly found at the top universities and u-grad business programs.</p>
