How Hard Is It To Get Into UF?

Okay. So I know there are many forums about this but how’s my current situation. I am a freshman at a high school in Knoxville Tennessee. I am a huge Gator Fan and my dream college is of course UF. They have great programs in computer science and software development. What I intend on majoring in. As for my stats. I’m not entirely sure because I’m still only a freshman. I want to get a little bit of a head start on college in order to make goals. I haven’t taken an sat or act. I don’t know my gpa either. I take all honors classes and currently have A’s in everything but Geomrety. I have a B in that class. Are my stats looking good right now to have a chance at my dream school of UF.

Like you said, it’s way to early to say, but we can give you advise on what you need to do to be competitive.

First, a link showing what UF recommends you do, each year in High School:

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frplanning.html

UF uses holistic admissions, with the following factors being most important:

GPA and Class Rigor: You need to take some of the hardest classes available at your high school and strive to keep your GPA high. SAT/ACT test scores are not as important as GPA, though they do take them into account. About 50% of admissions is based on GPA, Class Rigor, Test Scores and application essay (the essay matters!).

The middle 50 percent of students admitted to the 2014 fall freshman class had the following criteria:

High School GPA of 4.1-4.5
SAT 1810-2060
ACT 27-31

UF uses a weighted GPA, it’s +0.5 points for honor classes and +1.0 points for AP/DE/IB/AICE classes.

ECs, leadership, volunteering and Work: Since UF uses holistic admissions, about 50% of the admission will be based on these items. It’s important that you get involved in or out of school. Look to join a few school clubs, play a sport, school newspaper, school government, volunteer to help a cause, or even find a part time job. It’s best to find a few interest now, or at least by 10th grade and stay in them for a few years. If you join a few clubs now, it’s a lot easier landing a leadership position by the time your a junior or senior.

You’re going to have to balance academics with EC’s/volunteering/work, so time management is important. For example, it helps to do volunteering/work over the summer, to free your time up for academics/clubs during the school year.

Finally, you’ll need a plan for paying for UF. Out of State Tuition will be over $29,000 a year by the time you graduate.

Good Luck and Go Gators!
