I notice a lot of colleges list presidential scholarships on their websites and I was just wondering how difficult these are to obtain. For example, if I am applying to a school in which my stats fall well within the top 25% of students, and I meet all of the criteria specified, do I have a good chance? Or do these types of awards only go to the exact top couple of students?

It really depends on the school. Some guarantee it for all students with certain stats, some have a competition for the 1 or 2 awards, and lots in between.

It depends. Some will give you the scholarship if your GPA is high enough. Some will made you go through the process of applying and interviews.

Usually the top 25% are not going to get a Presidential Scholarship (which can be full tuition). That’s just too many students.

The purpose of these scholarships are usually to get students with the highest test scores to attend, so as to help with the school’s reported stats.

The number of awards will vary by school, but often you have to be in the top 1-5% to get a big scholarship. And, sometimes a “scholarship weekend” is req’d for interviews and such.

However, some schools that have ASSURED Presidential scholarships for req’d stats (TEST scores and GPA) will award to all the meet the req’ts and deadlines.
