How do you earn the Presedential Scholarship?

Hi,

I really desire the presidential scholarship. Are there any specific traits the presidential scholarship judges look for? Unfortunately, I've been unable to find sufficient information through the internet on this matter. I would wholly appreciate if someone gave me some meaningful information or some tips to achieve the presidential scholarship. For your information, I am a softmore in high school.

Thanks in Advance!

What Presidential scholarship? Never heard of a Presidential scholarship except for some specific to individual schools - such as “name of school” presidential scholarship. If it is a scholarship specific to a particular school then you would need to check with that school.

A softmore?

Are you talking about Presidential Scholars - i.e. the one where you have to get near perfect SAT or ACT scores?

OR are you talking about Presidential Scholarships at specific schools, like what swimcatsmom is saying?

I’m talking about the national presidential scholarship-probably the one where you need to get near perfect ACT and SAT scores.

It is not a scholarship. There is a U.S. Presidential Scholar award. It is an honor to receive it. But it is not a scholarship - there is no money with it.

http://www.ed.gov/programs/psp/faq.html

It is extremely competitive. Only about 140 students get it in a year.

So, qualified applicants should be receiving their applications soon, right?

Yes - towards the end of January. I see that you got a 36 on your ACTs (congratulations!), so most likely you will be receiving an application soon. If you’re curious as to what the panel looks for, you might want to look at the yearbooks from past years that have a brief bio from the scholars themselves.

What do you have to score on the aCT or SAT to be eligible to apply?

^Essentially, 36 or 2390-2400.

Also, whomever does it sends YOU a form-- there’s no other way of getting one.

No offense, but are you a US Citizen? You must be a U.S. citizen to be awarded the Presidential Scholarship.

I noticed that you spelled sophomore as softmore, so I was wondering if you’re an int’l.

Also, you must be a graduating senior.

*
2. Eligibility

I’m not a US Citizen.

If you will not have US Citizenship by the application receipt deadline, you are not eligible for the program.

I’m not graduating from high school this year.

You are not eligible for the 2010 program year. If you will be graduating next year, you may be eligible then.

*

Thanks! I’m definitely one of those people who had more of an affinity to the ACT than the SAT. I’ll (hopefully) look out for an application soon!

I got a 35 on the ACT, but a 2400 on the SAT. Will my ACT score be dropped?

Be sure to use a spilling chucker on your essays.

Does the DoE report these cnadidates to colleges? Or should we do it ourselves?

According to the site, ACT and Collegeboard report the candidates/scores.
