I was a big slacker in high school and it wasn't until mid Senior year until I realized that this isn't the path I should be going in. So starting this fall, I am going to community college and planning to get straight A's, and set my goals straight. I want to transfer out after an year, but I just want to know if this is possible? I'm from NJ by the way and planning to transfer to schools like Rutgers, Stony Brook, Emory, etc. Can it all be done in one year?

one year - they will take your high school performance into consideration
two years or more - high school performance will be less relevant or not considered

Not hard but you better have been good in hs and be good enough to take a rigorous course load at cc (think hs with AP classes).

Make an appointment with the transfer counselors at your community college and ask them about this. They can tell you which colleges and universities have accepted transfers like you in the last couple of years, and they can help you sort out your options.
