How hard is it to transfer from CC to Cal Poly for Mechanical Engineering?
What should I prepare? I am going to try to transfer this coming year, what should I do?

Use assist.org to plan out your coursework.

In order to have a strong application, you must have finished the required prereqs for the Mechanical Engineering major. This usually includes a year of chem, a year of physics, and a year or math.

You will have an easier time transferring if you have completed the major course prep that the school wants. You also need 60 units. If the majority of your units are general ed, you won’t be a strong candidate.

If you could post what classes you have taken in regards to math, chem, and physics, I could tell you if you are on track.

I am currently at a CC as well, and just talked to my counselor about being an engineering major…so this is all fresh in my head!

The Engineering Program at SLO is impacted so it definitely won’t be easy.
SLO itself REALLY doesn’t want you changing major even if you are already there so transferring in could be a challenge.

GPA 3.6
All Pre req completed
Static in progress
C Programing in progress
(All the above would be completed by the spring)

I think we’re in the same boat…both applied with all pre-recs from CC. I just thought I’d let you know that I spoke with a junior transfer from Cuesta when I visited the school and he was doing well. Said the transition was reasonable. He also seed to har found a good group of friends.
