Transfer

Hello Forum Members,

I have recently been accepted to Cal Poly as an Aerospace Engineer. After I had submitted my application I realized that this was probably not the best way for me to go. So my question is, what would it take to transfer into a mech. engineering major? Is there anyway for me to change my major before I start school at SLO or do I have to wait to actually be in class? I know that SLO makes admissions decisions based on how many others are applying for your major but I figure that aero. and mech. engineering must not be to far apart (or am I completely kidding myself).

If it helps
3.88 Cal Poly GPA (at the time it was really a 4.08 but now it’s 4.17)
1350 Sat’s (Critical Reading and Math)

From what i have heard, it is extremely hard to change majors and I'm pretty sure you'll have to stick with your current major for at least a year. Sucks but I think it's the only way because if not everyone would be applying under "easy to get in" majors and then transfering.

Pikeman, you're right when you say aero and mech. are similar, beacuse they are in the same college(engineering). Many say switching majors at CP is difficult, but that's only when you switch colleges(say, engineering to science and math). Switching within your college happens all the time. You may have to take a couple ME classes before you can do it, tho. Call the ME department.

Thanks for all the answers so far
