Hi,
I am applying to colleges in two weeks and I’ve had cold feet about nursing. I always knew I wanted to be in the health/medical field. A few years ago I dropped the idea of doctor because I didn’t want to be in school that long and it seemed way too hard for me. I’m not a naturally smart person and I have to work extra hard to get decent grades. I was planning on applying to nursing school but lately i’ve been concerned with how hard people say it is. I’ve worked so hard in high school with the wrong idea that I would be able to finally enjoy and live my life in college. I know I am there to get an education, but social life is very important to me after sacrificing it so much in high school for my grades. I want to help people and I think I want to be a nurse but I am concerned about the difficulty of nursing school and am not sure if I am ready. I was considering going on the PA track, but I heard they don’t work in hospitals as much and that requires an extra two years. I was also thinking of undergrad health or bio and then doing an ABSN program after which is just an extra year. I was also considering teaching because I work at an elementary school after school and I enjoy it. I’ve volunteered in hospitals and I like the environment. A lot of the schools that I love either don’t have nursing or are way too small for me and so on. I think I would be happy at a big, urban school, but most of them are reaches for me, especially for nursing. My guidance counselor said I basically have to pick between a great social experience at a big, urban college, or nursing. Is that true? But overall, I have an idea of what I want to do but Im not sure how I want to get there. Based on this information, any advice you have would be very much appreciated!
