I recently shadowed one of my friends at UNC (went to all his classes, went to the dining hall) and was absolutely blown away at the incredibleness of the campus. He insisted it was fairly easy, but I want opinions from others. Did you think it was hard making all new friends? It just seems really intimidating going to the dining hall and not knowing a SINGLE person.

I was out of state coming in and knew NO ONE! Within the first week, I had already met several friends who I am now even closer to a semester later. It was really easy because everyone is coming in looking for friends. Everyone is in the same boat!

D is very shy. Within the first week, however, she met a great group of friends. Go in expecting to feel lonely the first few days but knowing that it will be a very temporary feeling.

join a frat, fool

or sorority. whatever

My D (OOS) is shy but used roommate finder to find someone with similar interests to dorm with. This was a great help and relieved the stress of not knowing who her roommate would be. This person turned out to be instate which allowed her to meet many other people. She also has made friends with people in her classes. Now she has a mix of in-state,oos and even a study abroad student that is here for the year.
Out of all the schools we visited (10), this one was the friendliest and full of school spirit. She loves it and misses UNC when she comes home.
So, don’t worry.
