I've heard that the budget cuts are killing transfer rates. I am a freshman at Chico right now with a 3.1 (it will get higher) and I am trying to transfer into either UCSB UCLA or Cal POLY SLO. What are my chances. Will it be easier transfering from SBCC instead of a CSU?

u heard wrong… uc transfer rate are not going to be significantly affected… dont know about cal states

Welcome to the board, Undecided00. :)

I’ve heard that freshman admission rates will be affected by the budget cuts, not the transfer admission rates.

BUT it will be easier to transfer from SBCC. I highly doubt that you could transfer to UCSB or UCLA with a 3.1, unless you have truly exceptional ECs (as in military service, running a established business, etc.). I don’t know about Cal Poly SLO. The UCs give CC students top priority, and after that other UC students have a better chance of getting in than CSU because the UC and CSU curriculum/system is different.

Also, because of the budget cuts, they are not decreasing transfer admissions (I believe they are adding 500), but they are accepting more international and OOS students so they can get that extra income.

Merced accepts every qualified applicant though.

okay, good information guys thanks!

you can definitely transfer to ucsb with a 3.1 if you sign a tag. not ucla though

Note that UCSB is making a big cut to transfer admissions for Fall 2010, not due to the budget, but because of over-enrollment last year. If you signed a TAG, you’re fine, but I think it will be very difficult for everyone else:

[UCSB Press Release: "
BACKGROUND BRIEFING
UC Santa Barbara Receives 58,992 Applications for Fall 2010 From Prospective Freshmen and Transfer Students "](<a href=“Public Affairs & Communications | Institutional Advancement”>Public Affairs & Communications | Institutional Advancement)

well, i hope ucsb won’t reject me…

Ahhh! I would fear this would happen with UCSB. I applied this year with a 3.4, but I didn’t sign TAG. What do you guys think my chances are?

ur chances look pretty good james. whats ur major? if its non-impacted, ill bet my balls that ull get in…

lol ^^^

10char

I applied as a Global Studies Major, my alternative is Asian-American studies.

just sign a tag and ur guaranteed…

I believe that he said he’s from Chico so that a CSU so he’s not eligible for TAG
