How has being in an honor society been advantageous for you?

I'm thinking of joining two honor societies at my school: **Phi Beta Delta/b & **Gamma Theta Epsilon/b.

[ul]
[]Are honor societies a valuable or waste of time?
[]How have they helped you (employment, etc.)
[]-If it has helped you find a job, are you still paying dues or did you stop once you received a job?
[]and lastly: Do people normally join more than one honor society?
[/ul]

Waste of time, but if you want it on your resume. Why not? But for practical purposes not much use.

what the hell?

The biggest advantage is probably the networking. Being able to put it on a resume is pretty nice too. My honors society also offers graduate scholarships, national conferences, and workshops (all of which look great on a CV/resume.) I can’t say it’s really made a difference in my job search though, just really nice for a prospective grad student.

I can’t say much about on-campus benefits, but as an incoming freshman, being in the honors program has already been helpful. Honors students get to sign up for classes earlier, and there are certain scholarships that only the honors students can get. I got one of those, so honors has helped me pay for school.

But all schools are different, so I can’t say anything about yours.
