How helpful are interviews for students with average test scores/grades?

I know that interviews can't hurt you much, but they can help you out by a lot? Say i don't have the best grades or the highest test scores, but my interview goes really well. Would that help? As opposed to someone with a 4.0 gpa and 2380 SAT, but does bad on the interview. In that case, i understand interviews doesn't really help or hurt. But what about for people with par/subpar scores? Does it help? And if it doesn't, then what's the point of interviews?

I just had an interview last weekend and my GPA isn’t up to par for Penn’s and my extracurriculars aren’t stellar… but I like to think interviews CAN help. That is, if you really blow the interviewer away with your passion about your major/the school/creativity/wit/charisma/etc, I really think the interview could bolster your chances.

Otherwise, for people like me (I think my interview was pretty normal… it wasn’t amazing but I don’t think it was horrible), interviews don’t matter too much. I think the point of it is to find out more about Penn, because you have the opportunity to ask someone who went there what it was like, instead of asking an admissions officer about things like student life and etc.
