So I’m currently a sophomore and I play soccer (varsity) but I want to drop it. I enjoy playing soccer and I’m good at it and all of my friends are on the team, but I just get really bad anxiety when everyone is watching and the team is relying on you. The nerves sort of ruin the sport for me, and it’s also an incredibly huge time commitment. I do a lot of other EC’s (deca officer, class vp, etc.) and I have a lot of meetings to go to and it’s hard to juggle. I know sports show time management skills but there’s nothing I can do because sometimes I have to choose. So, would dropping the sport make a big difference in my application than if I kept up with it?
Sports (unless you’re a recruited athlete) are looked at as an EC. Dropping soccer should not impact you as long as you have other ECs.
why are you choosing whether or not to drop soccer just for college admissions? only do the things you love.
this question is quite easy to answer if you think about it.
do you love playing soccer at school? → yes → then continue playing soccer
> no → then don’t continue playing soccer
don’t choose to do soccer just for college admissions. you will most definitely regret doing something that you don’t like for the sake of looking good. i’m a current high schooler too and i’ve stopped doing things for the sake of doing them. i love all the activities that i’m involved in now because they interest me and/or because i am passionate about them. looking back, i would not regret a single choice regarding what extracurriculars i picked to do (besides not doing what i loved freshman year).
Well I enjoy playing the sport and playing with my friends so I decided I would create an intramural soccer team thats co-ed and less intense and serious, because my only issue with high school sports was the pressure. thanks for the advice guys
