How important are sports in college admissions?

I’m currently a freshman and I’ve tried some sports this year and in previous years and I’ve found that sports are not a strength of mine or something that I’m even half decent at. Obviously I’m not aiming to be a recruited athlete but how important is having a sport when it comes to college admissions? I know sports can be an opportunity for teamwork and responsibility etc. but would it be detrimental to my application if I didn’t do a sport or would a sport just be another EC with little weight?

Unless you are a recruited athlete, sports are just another EC. Find something else you enjoy doing instead.

No. @Gumbymom is correct.

From what I’ve seen, colleges want you to do EC’s that you are passionate about NOT EC’s for resume fillers.

Not important. Students just need to show that they are involved and committed to whatever their interests are. Don’t worry if sports are not for you.

But it is good you tried sports…you have found that they are not your thing. That is what HS is about! Go try some more clubs/activities and see what you like.
