As the first semester in my school is starting to close out I was just wondering how much these grades even matter in the end. I’m taking 7 course, 6 of them AP and by the looks of it, I think I’m going to end up with 3 B+s in 3 of my AP classes. In the past years, I’ve had an average of a 3.78 unweighted GPA and a 4.33 weighted. So in the end, would this significantly hurt my chances in getting into a fairly competitive college (aiming for USC)?
Thanks!
They’re going to count, but how much can vary from college to college.
If you got an early acceptance, you’re in good shape if you maintain with B’s or better through the end of senior year. Colleges might withdraw an acceptance if senioritis hits and your final grades are in D or F territory - or even if you dropped or changed a class without a compelling reason.
If you have not been accepted yet, you have to assume most colleges will give midterm senior grades the same consideration as sophomore or junior year grades, unless the college tells you otherwise. Colleges know that senior year has some rigorous classes, so a B+ in Calculus BC, for example, probably won’t hurt you.
