How Much do Senior Year Grades Matter?

Hey guys! So I was wondering how important senior year grades are..So, I didn't get Senioritis but I've been VERY busy with scholarships, college apps, extracurriculars, etc., which have taken a lot of time out of my studying.
Soooo, as finals are approaching, I wanted to know if having a Weighted 4.0, U/W 3.33 GPA this semester would (majorly) affect me. Unfortunately, I will most likely end up with a C in AP Calculus AB.

My Cumulative GPA is currently a 3.73 W, 3.5 U/W--which is already bad so I'm thinking it'll seriously hurt me. If it helps, my 10-11 Weighted (UC) GPA is 4.0, and my SAT score is 2030.

Also, this is specifically for USC, Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCSB.
Thanks so much for replying!!

If you’re talking about your seventh semester grades, they will be evaluated along with the rest of your transcript. Frankly, they are examined closely b/c they predict eventual college academic potential/success better than earlier years’ grades.

Your 8th semester grades won’t be part of the decision and you just need to not fall off the cliff to retain any offers given to you.

UCs don’t get the Midyear Report so they won’t see your first semester grades.

Okay thanks a lot you guys! But, based off on my stats (let’s just ignore extracurriculars and similar things) do you think having a C in AP Calc and having a U/W GPA of 3.33 instead of the usual 3.67 will affect me enough at any of these schools to the point where I would be rejected from them? Or I guess just for USC since UCs don’t do the midyear report…

I’m not sure about USC. For the UCs, they will not see your midyear grades until you have been accepted by them (conditionally). However, SOME MAY contact you and ask for your 7th semester grades (UCSD asked my son for his). The form they used for him essentially allowed him to explain issues with his grades - so it’s how you use it… In any case, do NOT get less than a C in your spring classes. That can cause a revocation. Best of luck.

(PS, it was pretty funny - the email asking for the extra info said follow this link and complete this form, it should take you 5 minutes to do. However, the form had 3 questions and the spot to enter your grades, and emphasized that the admissions folks will really use this to evaluate you so do a good job. Very mixed message there…In fact, here is an excerpt from the email:

"…Then you will find a few brief questions and a request for your seventh-semester grades. There is also an opportunity to further explain how these factors might enhance your ability to excel at UC San Diego. Your response will be a critical part of our final admission decision.

It should take no more than five minutes to complete…")

Ok thanks a lot! Yeah I’m 100% positive that I won’t get anything less than a C. Lol yeah that’s really weird. They sent me an email about somethin else and it also had really conflictinh info. Thanks a lot for all this info btw. It definitely helps :)

Where do you get this infobite? Any statistics you can link me to?

No stats Philo. But consider the typical “college prep” transcript. What classes are on a ninth grader’s transcript?

Junior year? Senior year? If you were a file reader would As in an advanced courseload as a Jr or Sr weigh more heavily than in Fr year? Heck, some schools don’t even consider Freshman year grades.

If they are seeing if you really are pushing yourself, they’ll look for the APs which are much more available to Jrs and Srs.
