I was wondering how high do colleges, especially Ivies, regard the standardized test scores. I read in the Yale book that an awesome transcript will make up for lower scores, but people on this site say to cross those upper schools off the lists if the scores aren't in the upper 700s. Does anyone truly know of how much importance they are?

This is not the best forum to get an answer to that question, as most people are on this list because they are obsessed with standardized scores.

In the big picture, they don't mean a heckovalot.

they're basically to get your foot into the door. If your SAT's are all around 700+ (for ivies), then colleges start to look at your other qualities like extra curriculars, volunteer, essays, interviews, which will be the deciding factors in distinguishing you among other applicants

so to answer your question, yes they are important, but don't solely count on SAT scores to get into a competitive school

Definitely don't believe what people in this forum say over what Yale says.

So question: Are the people that are posting on this site with Acceptances to places like Yale and Harvard w/ 780+ on all SAT I and SAT IIs the norm for acceptances?

I don't think anything we read in forums is the norm. The high achievers and high dreamers are the ones here. I know someone with perfect SATs, a perfect GPA, and unbelievable ECs who didn't get into Yale or Harvard. It's all a crapshoot if you ask me!
