I’ve been looking at a lot of facts and figures for USC and UCLA/stressing myself out pointlessly, and was wondering how much low test scores would diminish my chance of acceptance? I have a ton of activities/leadership/community service, lots of AP exam passes, straight As in everything but math, and a 3.74/4.5 GPA. I’ve taken and am re-taking the ACT and SAT, but I really just suck at standardized tests and can’t afford anything beyond prep books and free websites. I also have a chronic pain disorde that impacts my ability to concentrate, but still, I’m really worried that my scores are going to make or break my admissions. And I’m from Virginia.
Test scores are very important!
Is that your UC GPA?

Okay but how much do scores and GPA outweigh other factors? I know every applicant is considered individually, and I’m
trying to evaluate if the rest of my application and extenuating circumstances would make up for this.
My UC GPA is 4.1
UCLA takes everything into account. Having test scores that don’t “match” your GPA, suggests grade inflation.
I mean I’ve taken all AP and honors courses when available and I’m in the top five percent of my class, so I would hope that that would show otherwise. I also go to a lower income school in the city-- the average GPA is about 2.5
Remember, you’re competing with other students who may have similar GPA, APs, etc, but better test scores. Study and take lots of practice tests!
And what’s the score/GPA situation like at USC? I’m actually more interested in that than UCLA.
I have heard of many CA local students who don’t get in to USC, even with >2200 SAT scores or as a legacy. It seems to be a high reach/impossible school for everyone now.
All you can do is study for your tests, keep up the ECs, and write great essays and personal statements.
Good luck!
