How important is Course Difficulty?

Would it be better to take harder courses and get lower grades than working the breeze to get A's?
What are the most important factors? GMAT? Work exp.?

Depends on school. But at many schools course difficulty is most important.

What if your following the course guide for your major? I have a sample 4-year guide and requirements and I'm going to follow that, is this going to hurt?

I would argue that course difficulty hardly plays any role at all.

Most important for MBA admissions are work experience and leadership qualities.

Then whats the point of taking more difficult courses when you could get better grades in easier courses?

Because when it comes to MBA acceptance, bad grades don't matter that much either. What matters most of all are you work experience and your leadership skills. I've seen plenty of people with stellar GPA's get rejected by B-schools in favor of guys with quite mediocre GPA's.

Hence, for the purposes of getting into B-school, I would certainly take a class in which I might get a bad grade in, but learn something that will help me get a better job.
