How important is demonstrated interest/visiting?

Hi!
I am applying to Emory RD with a 3.9 unweighted GPA (4.6 weighted) and a 33 on my ACTs. I have a lot of extracurricular activities and work experience; I think I am a good applicant for Emory (a bit of a reach, maybe?). However, I have not visited at all. I did attend an info session at a nearby function presented by my regional rep, (but so did everyone else applying from my competitive MA school, most likely).

Should I visit in the coming months? And by what date? How should I go about showing more interest? It really is a top choice for me, but I just haven’t visited yet because flying is expensive (and they say they understand that, but I don’t think they really do)!!

How can I better secure an acceptance through showing interest?

Thanks!

Be sure you are signed up for emails/notifications on their website. Good that you went to an info session, I assume you signed in. There probably won’t be more info sessions or college fairs in the next couple months, as admissions staff are now busy reading application – but if anything comes up, go and make sure you sign in. If you have a portal login from your application, log in regularly to check it (some schools notice if students don’t bother). You are probably fine since you did the info session, though.

Emory no longer takes demonstrated interest into account. They are going to simply select anyone who fits. I would recommend you attend an interview if you are offered one (if you live in any of the cities), but please do get to know the school by some means whether its researching via its website student publications, departmental websites, whatever. Go check it out whenever you get the chance. See if you like it…

Yeah they don’t care if you’ve never visited the campus or have visited the campus 1,000 times; they only look at merit.

That’s a relief. Thanks!

Just to confirm - we never visited campus and my son was accepted last year. Emory relies entirely on merit, rigor, the essay/personnel statement and test scores. My son did visit before he had to commit.
