Showing Interest

Recently I have herd it is important to show interest in a school to boost admission chances, especially at a school like Emory. How am I suppose to go about doing this? Do i call admissions? Schedule a visit? Any feedback would be awesome.

I now go to Emory and the rep said that you show interest by either signing up with their mailing list, going to a gathering they have in the area and stuff like that, admissions doesn't pay attention to stalkers.

an admissions officer told me that they've had ppl call them and email them everyday, and that was a complete turn-off... there's a fine balance between annoying/showing interest, but just do the normal stuff, like visiting, signing up for email lists, etc...just dont be annoying lol.

Showing interest is very important. Schools want to know that you like them. And they don't like to know that you like other schools. They want to believe they are your first choice school.

Now, here's a simple way to show interest without seeming sketchy:

When you go to a tour or info session, whether it's in your area or on campus, always get the business card of the person hosting it and introduce yourself. The admission officer will most likely ask you where you are from and try to start a conversation if there is not a big crowd. Make sure YOU are the person talking to the admission officer and NOT your parents. They want to learn about you, because you are the one applying. After the info session or tour, write a short thank you note to that admission officer (hence why you need the business card for the address). It's a nice gesture. ALWAYS write a thank you note. Especially for your interview too! Emory didn't offer interviews back when I applied, but I'm sure in the future they will. Emory has such great alumni support, interviews are definitely going to happen.

Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!

For Emory, the simplest ways to show interest are taking a campus tour (they have a short form to fill out that goes in your admission file) or requesting the video visit from their website, which also goes in your file. That's really it. The thank you note is always a nice touch too, though.

order a free dvd and i think on the application they ask do you know a student so find a student and give their name
