How important is ED for internationals who need aid?

Application season is still a ridiculously long time from now, but I'd like to have my game plan ready in advance.

What I was thinking of doing is applying to 1 school ED and another EA after I take the SAT's again in October. Both of these are reach schools, so even if I won't need aid it would be difficult to get in anyways.

Would applying ED (Not a lot of EA schools give much aid) to a less competitive school like St. Lawrence or Lafayette give me a much better chance of getting to study in the US as opposed to sticking to my plan and applying to these schools RD?

If you need a lot of aid, do not apply ED. You want to be able to compare the aid packages.

That’s what I was was thinking initially, but I read a post somewhere here on CC that made me reconsider.

The guy said that we internationals should pick our ED school carefully if we need a lot of aid, but I really do feel that what you said is true. I just had some doubts.

Thanks!
