i was just wondering..

everyone has it on their app...pretty much useless according to me....

it's not important.

If everyone has it, then wouldn't it become almost a requirement? As in, having it doesn't give you an advantage, but not having it hurts you?

They would probably assume you forgot to put it in...

Or they care so little they really don't notice, either way.

if u have to ask....ur grades must suck...so it wont matter

"if u have to ask....ur grades must suck...so it wont matter"

Uh, no. I've also wondered the same thing, and I am in one of those societies. I agree w/ Random Bob, if you're not in it it hurts you, but if you are it doesn't help. Same probably goes for National Merit Semi-Finalist if you're applying to a top school.

At my school only like 3 people are in it and I bet the majority of my school doesn't even know about it.... but then again, I go to an underachieving schoool so what do I know?

yeah it doesnt quite rank among who's who, but its close...esp. at my small public where anyone with half-a-brain (lol still only about a sixth of the class) is in...prob goes hand in hand with grade inflation?

My son ws a member of the National Honor Society but he chose to attend University in Canada-these things don't matter when applying to University there- strictly grades and test scores-nothing else.
My daughter, a sophomore in high school now was just accepted into the NHS-
It may help her should she apply to US schools-
But, it is still an honor-especially in my daughter's and son's schools where the GPA necessary to be accepted is rather high.

our min. GPA for NHS is a 93- it that it everywhere?

ours is 93 also, although i think academic letters are 95...i dont know how these were decided

wait ur saying that who's who is more important then national honor roll? weird...wouldn't they be equal? anyway i have both so it won't hurt me...some people on board are such pessimists

Who knows really... I know someone who is a top student and got in at cornell but isn't in honor society because he got caught cheating, but i don't think the colleges he applied to know that but the teachers did so he didnt' get in

Washington College Academic Tuition Scholarships for NHS and CLS Members

All National Honor Society and Cum Laude Society members who are admitted to Washington College are awarded a $40,000 four-year Washington College Academic Tuition Scholarship ($10,000 annually for four years). Some NHS and CLS members qualify for additional awards that increase their total Academic Tuition Scholarship from $10,000 per year to $11,500 - $15,000 per year.

Woah...

Let's put it this way: having NHS is better than not having it.

Has anyone heard of Cum Laude Society?

My school churns out as many NHS students as possible. From talking to friends who have just gotten accepted to college, it's better having it than not having, but it's not going to ruin your chances if you don't.

Yeah i have heard of Cum Lauder or whatever but i'm not sure what it is...i'm gona go google it

SO THE TEACHER"S TOLD ON HIM???? OMG that is kind of unfair...he made one mistake and his life is ruined...really sucks
