How important is the counselor statement?

Pretty self-explanatory.

My counselor explained/clarified some thing on my transcript. Do colleges read these statements carefully?

Thanks.

anyone at all?!

yes, they read them. They wouldn’t ask for something that important to evaluating an application just to use it as toilet paper.

My understanding is that it really depends on the size of the college and the number of applications they receive. Smaller schools do a holistic review where they really look at counselor evaluations, teacher recs, etc. We often receive calls from the admission reps at smaller schools to ask us for further info on borderline students or to further clarify a discrepancy.

At larger universities - where they are receiving 30,000+ applications - maybe a quick glance at best.

I think the schools that I applied for have around 18.000 - 22.000 applicants a year. I guess they do qualify as larger universities in terms of applications, but the acceptance rate is very small.

thank you!
