How important is the essay?

I don't think I did too well on the essay, how do they factor it into the overall score, and does it play an important part? I thought I did great on the CR, Math, and Writing, but I didn't answer the question of the essay and spent my time addressing a similar matter that wasn't off topic, but not completely on topic. It angers me because I felt I had a 2000, but I hope the essay doesn't ruin everything. Also, if I listed four schools, will they automatically get my scores, or do I get to chose which scores I send?

The essay is 1/3 of the overall writing score.

I believe that the College Board has re-introduced Score Choice, which allows you to choose which scores you would like to show colleges. You have to send all the scores from one sitting -- so if you really like your math score but not your writing score, you have to decide whether that writing score is bad enough to lead you to withhold the entire sitting.

You can use it on the four schools you've already registered for -- go to the Web when you check your scores and you can do it through the electronic registration, or by calling the number on the College Board website.

I got an 80 on the actual grammar portion but I got a 6 on the essay >>> 700

So yeah, it does matter, but not to a great extent. Just make sure you get like a 8 to 10.
