How important is the guidance counselor recommendation?

Because, honestly, mine doesn't do crap and you pretty much have to tell her to do her job. She doesn't know me too well and seems like she's a terrible writer. How negatively will this impact me? The teacher recs should be good.

If the teacher recs are good, you’ll be fine. Whether or not she asks for it or not, you need to provide your guidance counselor with a resume, and perhaps what the “high points” of your high school career has been.

not to hijack this thread, but does that mean it’s OK if your guidance counselor checks ‘average’ and not something like ‘top 1%-3% of students.’

It’s OK if it’s an accurate assessment. Only 1 out of 33 can be in the top 3%.

^but I’m asking if it will hurt chances. I mean, if your guidance counselor has no interest in knowing you, she can’t check anything good, can she?

Doesn’t the counselor rec get sent along with the transcript, which includes class rank?
