So I didn't realize we needed to request our interviews until just now - there are only 10 days left to contact alumni and to have the actual interview. I'm a bit reluctant to ask for an interview so last minute...so I was wondering how important are the interviews, really? Is it possible to get in without an alumni interview, and if so how often does it happen? Thanks for any help.

chingstah- Have you visited CMU or shown interest in some other way? CMU does factor in candidates’ level of interest so an interview could help show that you are serious.

Why don’t you just use the search function? Hundreds of applicants have already asked this question.
At an information session, the speaker said that interviews are not necessary & that the majority of acceptees don’t have interviews because there is such high demand & small supply.

So, no. You really don’t need an interview. I didn’t have one. HOWEVER, it can only help you. Also, a tour of campus is a very good thing to have. It shows some level of interest.

My friend whose mum works at Carnegie Mellon says they love it when people show interest in the school, so tours, interviews, & sleeping bag weekends are really good (though not entirely necessary) and can only bump you up.

Should I get an interview with a very old art major (intl student, it’s the only alumn of my country) if I’m applying to SCS ?

If s/he’s your only option, it wouldn’t hurt.

Roger that, thanks for the advice.
