How important is the SAT essay?

I took the SAT in January and got a 6-5-6 on my essay. I’m trying to study and get my composite score up since I only got 1220, so I’m wondering if I should even bother studying for the essay. Is it worth the time, or should I focus on my composite score?

My top schools are UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and Cal Poly SLO.

Look up the colleges you are applying for, and go to their websites to see if they require the Essay. If not, then don’t even waste your time. Remember, every minute counts so use it wisely!
