I took the SAT in October and managed to obtain a 24/24 on the writing portion, but will this be significant in the grand scheme? From talking with others, the general consensus is that most colleges do not place as much weight on this section of the test given that is optional to students, but I also do wonder if obtaining a perfect score can make a significant difference or help me stand out from other applicants, especially for those requiring the submission of the SAT essay.
I’m a firm believer that if it is offered, but not required, you should do it. Every little thing can help and you don’t know who will care about what. If you can do an essay, do it. Same with college applications. If they give you 3 optional essays, write them.
I had a test prep teacher tell me once, “you can’t get points if you’re not in the room”. Don’t leave early. Go above and beyond if it’s something you really want.
Although not many colleges require or have an emphasis on the essay, sending in the essay score wouldn’t hurt your admission chances, especially if you got a perfect. However, be sure to check each school’s SAT Essay policy.
