First semester grades will be ready to be sent in late February at my high school. How much of an impact will these grades have on my decision if most of these schools are sending decision letters in late March? My guidance counselor sent my first quarter grades to all of my schools, so is the first semester required at most places? I'm applying to top liberal arts schools and am just a bit worried about this. :) Thanks!

I don’t think it’ll be a make or break factor in the application, but then again, sending good grades can’t hurt and sending bad grades can certainly make you less appealing than another applicant of the same range with good midyear grades. All in all, you should take them seriously, but not stress if you got a couple A-s or Bs- they won’t matter too much in the actual decision.

Think about it, if you’re a solid accept or deny, and your grades are close to what they have been your first 3 years, they probably won’t matter much. But if you’re on the bubble, then they might tip you one direction or the other. No one here can tell you how much influence they’re going to have in your particular case, it depends on what the rest of your application looks like, how you compare relative to other candidates, and what each school is looking for.

Your applications are all submitted, your grades have been send, this question is really moot at this point in time.

exactly. it can change if you are boarderline

And if they are very bad in comparison to your normal grades there is a potential for being rescinded.
