I am an incoming junior, and I am taking the SAT Subject Test Math Level 2 after taking Honors Precalculus as a sophomore. How much do colleges value that score in comparison to my grade in the class, especially at top public schools like the University of Michigan and the University of Washington? I plan to go into a science or health-related major.
You can Google the common data set of each school, look at section C, and see how each university rates the importance of standardized testing in admissions.
Subject tests are helpful to adcoms in that they are a standardized measure of students’ knowledge. As long as your score is consistent with your grade in the class (or comparatively higher), you’re fine. The only real red flag is if you got an A in the class and scored considerably lower on the subject test, indicating to colleges that you may not be as prepared academically / your classes may not be as challenging as your transcript implies.
Much appreciated. I hope I did well on it so there is less hassle.
Why are you worried about this? Did you do poorly in terms of your course grade?
@thumper1 The opposite, actually. I did very well in the class, but I didn’t feel good after the test.
For certain schools, like Harvey Mudd and MIT and Caltech, you are required to take math II to be considered.
