I am amazed by the kids who seem to be going it utterly alone.
My dad and mom are pretty against me going other than if I get accepted into 2 or 3 schools they deem that are “good enough” (hardest and lowest chance) so I’m basically on my own in completing all the apps and scheduling the interviews and even parent statements.
I’d say 90% of the process is me doing the work and 10% are my parents. For me, I filled out and submitted my initial application, asked my teachers for recs, wrote my essays, requested for my interviews, asked the admissions officers questions about the applications process, chose the schools, signed up and studied for the SSAT, etc., without any reminders. My parents did the parent statement and the financial aid information.
I’m the one bugging my mom to do her essays. 8-}
Starting on my own, but I think I’ll have to ask my parents for assistance. But I’m quite reluctant for that because we’re not really in good terms.
I hate that feeling…
Oh! Udon Soup! That makes me so sad. If I can be of assistance, I’m happy to. If your parents are not on the same page as you, will that not sabotage your chances of actually making it to a school - even if you are accepted?
@udonsoup I think you will find there are lots of adults here who are happy to be a resource for you if you ask!
Hello @britmom5 and @lifelongny, thank you for your support
Brit, even though we’re not in good terms, my parents are still willing to send me off for education. Don’t want to bother them though and do maximum by myself !
@udonsoup, this may be presumptuous but judging from your posts I am wondering if you are an international candidate? My best and first advice to you would be to see if you can get a native english speaker to help you out with editing your essays….maybe a teacher at school?
@lifelongnyer you guessed right, I am an international candidate.
