I'm just wondering to what extent everyone's parents participate in the whole app process. I have a friend whose parents won't let them go out sometimes until he finishes an app. Then my parents don't pressure me to finish apps because they know that I know the consequences if I don't get them in on time. I wasn't really pressured into applying to any schools, except my mom wanted to me to apply to Stanford for some reason and my dad kept suggesting Princeton (over and over), but in the end, I made my own decision.

They took me to visit colleges last year. I got my apps done without any nagging or input from my parents. They read a couple of my essays, wrote the checks for the application fees, own the credit card used to send the score reports. They made some suggestions about which schools, I listened to what they said, but yeah, the list is ultimately mine. I think my dad would like to see me apply to more schools but he's been quite good about keeping his mouth shut. So they've been pretty much perfect actually - we don't usually get along so it's nice.

The way I see it...if you can't fill out an application without incessant nagging/help/whatever from Mommy and Daddy, how on earth are you supposed to actually GO to college?

The minimum: Just paying for app fees and filling out Finaid Forms.

today my mom was like, "so when are your applications due again."

and I go, "don't worry mom, I've got it covered."

Haha, that's what happens to my parents and scholarships. I envy the rich kids whose parents hire college consultants, essay writers, etc. =(

But if I get in, I'll have the satisfaction of knowing it was "all me."

well, my parents didn't even know i'd applied anywhere until i told them i'd gotten into my early action school.

my mum's the only one who asks about my college apps.

she asks, how much is this gonna cost me?

lol. anyway, i know what you mean newyorker- i live in a very upscale neighborhood, and half of the so-so kids at my school have hired college consultants to "edit" their applications. this one girl actually admitted that her college essay was edited so much by her tutor, that it didn't even sound like her writing anymore. she thought this was "awesome".

i wasn't that thrilled. but hey, where are you really gonna go with a 2 point zilch gpa?

My parents took me on college visits and signed the checks, but ultimately all the schools I'm applying to are of my own choice. I don't even think my mom could list the schools I'm applying to. They've been nagging a bit in the last few weeks because deadlines are approaching, but i've sent everything in already.
then when I was deferred from Harvard, my mom got upset because I hadn't involved her in the process and such. She gave me some suggestions for additions to my app, but other than that...nothing much. They've both lightened up a bit since they found out about my full ride to Mich.

generally being ridiculously annoying and offering useless advice on nit-picky details that don't matter anyways.

Yes, you guessed it, my parents are asian.

Yeah, mine are Jewish--sadly it's quite ironic they don't take ANY role in this process. LMAO!!

Well lets see, my dad took me to see some schools and ...... oh he found some scholarships (I really don't understand all that military stuff, so I left it up to him to find the military scholarships I'm eligible for) and my mom gave me the credit card to pay for the applications :) Other than that, not really a whole lot of involvement. They're basically leaving it up to me.

both parents are sticklers, but its ok, i got into NYU ED :)

My parents wouldn't be able to help me if they tried. Their English isn't too spectacular. :(

So I get to do the FAFSA and everything all by myself. Yippee.

everytime i bring up the word "college" my mom breaks down into tears so i cant even mention it around her.

and im only a sophomore. oh geez.

Hah, my mom was like that too and for the application fee. Other than that she mailed everything. No money for college visits.

urr,, My parents took me to colleges during summer...
My dad wants me to apply to more colleges, but who is doing all the work filling out apps??? me!..
I talk to my parents (as well as my younger sister...etc) for some ideas for my essays,,, but ultimately, I do almost everything alone.

My parents would definitely take part in deciding which college to go next year though...(since they're paying majority of the $$)

lol ouch........:(

My parents are super involved. They insist on looking over my applications to make sure everything is there; they don't let me out to do anything unless I've finished my apps, etc. They nag me every hour about apps too. Sigh, but I'm almost done.

my parents barely speak english so....yeah.

ha ha, my parents don't do a thing pretty much.
but i don't blame them, they are too busy with work
