How is Andover's boarding experience?

Alright, so up until yesterday I thought that I was allowed to apply as a day student to Andover. However, when I went to ‘A day with Andover’ and talked to an Admissions Officer to check in on my application, they told me I couldn’t apply as a day student like I decided in my application, because I lived just outside the boundary of where I’m allowed to apply as one. So I was wondering what the experience there is like. Here are my specific questions:

Do you get disconnected from your parents?

Is it fun?

How’s the food?

Are you allowed to live w/o a roommate?

Does it become stressful?

Are the dorms nice?

That’s it for now, answers to any of these questions would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

Basically identical to the boarding experience at every other school.

Is it better than the beds/food at Mass General? Yes. Does it come close to the Ritz-Carlton, or even your own home? No.

Yes. And since you are male, if you are applying for 9th grade, odds are you would have a single anyway since the largest 9th grade boys dorm is all singles.

Any stress is mostly caused by self (or parents) and impacts day students as well.

It’s what you make of it.

Although Andover offers students many types of activities & is within easy travel distance to Boston, it has a serious academic vibe & environment.
