HOW is AP LANG exam??

is ap lang ap exam difficult??
i want to know how hard it is,
plz reply
thanks!

This year, the multiple choice was ridiculously easy. The MC part is like SAT critical reading but easier. The essays is where you either make it or break it. Three essays: one document based question (they give you documents with evidence for your essay and you cite the documents in support of your argument), an essay analyzing another author’s essay/letter/story/script/biography and another essay, SAT style, it’s really just a persuasive essay.

It is not hard to study for, in fact, there’s a limited amount of studying that you can do- it’s probably the easiest exam to self study for. But remember, only eight % of people will get a 5, 20% will get a four etc so the exam can’t be easy for everyone, right?

ohhh, thanks
thanks for your advice,
do you know how should i prepare for the exam?

If it’s possible for you and if your school allows take it after you have taken the Lit course. My school recommends this. they have better results with seniors who took LANG as juniors and waited until senior year after taking Lit before taking the test. They think and I agree that the Lit course provides more writing experience that is vital for the Lang test.

I went through the process and I got 4 (I know not good by CC standard, but I am very fine by it, lol)

i got a 4 with basically no studying. i flipped through the review book a week or so before the test, and took some full-length practice exams just to see how i’d do on the multiple choice, and to get used to writing the essays. but all of that was done in class, so it’s really not a difficult test to get ready for. just use big words and link a few good points together and you’ll do great on the essays. for multiple choice you need to know literary terms and how they are used. but that’s pretty much it…

ohhh, i heard about taking ap lit before ap lang, but for my school, juniors take ap lang and seniors take ap lang, so…
also, do you guys know a good review book for ap lang?? or any other study tools that might help?
thank you all for replying

You don’t really need a prep book for AP Lang. You need to look at past essay questions and past sample responses and how they scored. You need to be familiar with a list of vocabulary and I’m sure you can find that with a quick Google search. You only need a prep book if you want to do practice tests, what they tell you to do and write isn’t really that advisable. Buy the prep book with the most practice tests.

ohh, okay thnaks

HighlandDaughter has requested that I not post her grades online, but she scored extremely well using Princeton Review and doing some of the previous Free Response Questions. [AP: English Language](<a href=“AP English Language and Composition Exam – AP Students”>AP English Language and Composition Exam – AP Students)

She hasn’t done AP Lit and at this point, none of the schools on her list will give any more credit for Lit than they will for her Language score. She took Language as a junior.

An easy 5.

Just take practice tests. Maybe work on your essays a bit. I didn’t do too much work for it.

thanks guys

If next year’s test is anything like this year’s was, the multiple choice will be laughably easy. During the break between the multiple choice and essays, my friend and I joked that we were taking the AP SAT Critical Reading exam. Essays are a bit more challenging; three essays in 2 hours with a 15 minute reading time. One will be a “synthesis” essay, which looks something like a DBQ, and you will use three or more of the documents to form an argument relevant to the topic. One will be a rhetorical analysis of a brief excerpt of prose, either fiction or non-fiction. The other essay is more of a personal essay, like the one on the SAT Writing.

Studying shouldn’t be too big a deal, since the test is more about acquired skills than knowledge. It helps to know a good deal of literary terminology which can be found in review books like Kaplan’s. Many of those who take the test do well, but not many get a 5. From my own experience, it is possible to get a 5 without even taking the course if you have a strong background in English.

Well, if it’s so easy, then why don’t more get a 5? That has always stumped me

I think many don’t get 5s because many not so intelligent kids take the exam, as English is a class most students have to take anyways. I think the deal-breaker between a 4 and a 5 on the exam is the multiple choice. If you do well on the SAT Critical reading, you’ll probably be fine. Overall though, I thought the exam was fairly easy.

That is true to a degree Soothsayerr but ultimately, only 8% of people would ever get a 5 because your score is mostly based on how well other people do- if everyone is smart, you’ve got to be smarter.

I see, well I never took the SATs - only PSATs and i got a 69/80 on CR which means around a 690/800 on the SATs so would that be considered a 5 for MC?

Hmmm, your PSAT result is lower than what you’re capable of: your CR score will improve when you study for the SAT. I honestly can’t say and no one can, but that score shows you’re definitely smart enough for a 5. The essays are where 55% of the test comes from so you need to worry about them more.

Yeah, but the only problems with my essays are that sometimes I can’t think under pressure and then when I finally focus I get distracted by some stupid thing like people coughing haha - so my preparation for those is more personal

as for MC, even though its less they’re still important, like if by some miracle I get all 8s and 9s on the essays, but like 10% of MC that’s like a 3 or 4, and out of my superciliousness  those will not do

I did no work for it and got a 5. Maybe I should say that I did not preparation strictly for the test. I read a wide variety of books, essays, articles and am a pretty good writer. I don’t think there is very much you can do to practice, but I guess I never looked into anything for preparation.

For the original question, AP English is not all that hard. It is not really easy though either. I got a 5 on the exam and I don’t even like English. If you know how to write a good essay and are somewhat decent on MC, then you’re good.
