I recently got into Drexel and as of right now my two options seem to be between Drexel and TCNJ. So how is there Communications department? Is it better compared to TCNJ? Any information helps! Thank you!
Hello!
I’m currently a freshman communication major and I was in the same boat as you last year- I was trying to decide which communication program was the best one for me. While I’m not familiar with TCNJ in any way and cannot speak on behalf of that school, I can assure you that the communication department at Drexel is really good.
Despite what reviews say about these professors (they’re usually made from students who are engineering/STEM majors so communication is slightly more challenging for them), a majority of the professors are actually really good. Of course, in every department, there are going to be some professors who are pretty bad but from my experience so far, I’ve had really great professors.
I was also questionable of the communication department at Drexel but I’m really glad I made the right choice in coming here. I’ve taken about 5 communication courses already and all of my professors have been really good. Depending on your concentration, there are professionals in each field who are there to assist you achieve your goal. While our communication department is not well-known, it’s steadily getting much better.
What I personally love about the communication program here is how caring each professor is. They take the time to get to know us as students while also offering their own expertise in the field. Also, instead of spewing out information for you to copy down, professors give you hands on experience to get your familiar with how the media runs. For instance, there’s one professor who requires journalism concentrated students to read the Philly newspaper every day as journalists should be expected to know what’s happening. Another professor in the PR concentration has over 20 years of experience in his field and also has students bring in articles of something they found online to discuss in class, as PR professionals are expected to also know what’s happening around the world. These are just some ways that communication professors are different from other schools.
All of the communication professors are really knowledgable in their field and many of them have contributed to my success at Drexel so far! I hope this covers some of what you wanted to know. Let me know if you have any more questions!
