How is George Washington University with need base financial aid? Would one expect at the most 4k in loans a year?

Their website states that they try to meet 100% need for students, and meet full need for 98% of students qualify for need base financial aid. I guess my main concern would be, if accepted, would max of loans be 4k, or could it likely to range into 10k+.

Well, GWU is very generous with both need based and merit based scholarships.

On the loan department, depending on your situation, you might take out to the max Stafford Loan amounts as well as any Perkin loans.

Wow really, I just looked up the Stafford Loan, with a max of about 139000.

No. The max Stafford comes to just over $27,000 subsidized and unsubsidized).

If you have “true” need, GWU will do their best to accommodate your situation. I’m classified as an independent student and was given $55,000 per year, $10,000 of which came in two different loans.

^
Wow, that must be great. Usually independent students get less need financial aid right?

We were given a boat load of grants and scholarships. I couldn’t believe it. They have a lot of money to give away. I did just read that there endowments dropped 13 %.

Thanks for the answers, looking for other opinions

Won’t be able to be online as I’am usually for a few days, so if I get any answers, the more the better, just may take longer for me to reply.
Thakns ( if I get any future answers)

I saw, on this forum and on Facebook (on which the students are less skewed toward the “perfect”), a LOT of students with low or zero EFCs getting just short of a full ride. I think the worst package for an EFC of 0 was $5000 per year in loans - less than the full Stafford loan. Unfortunately I can’t comment on higher EFCs. I have an EFC of 0 so I’ve really only been looking at how students like me are faring.
