How is McGill for commerce?

I plan to work in the area of finance or consulting, and hopefully work in Asia (south east asia or the middle east)

My first choice is mcgill but im also applying to:

Queens Commerce
Richard Ivey
UofT Rotman
Laurier BBA

If you plan to work outside Canada McGill is the best choice because It is well known internationally .

McGill has a pretty good name in Asia and especially in the financial centres of Singapore and Hong Kong. But apart from networking you will still need to have a really good GPA and an internship or two to land a spot in the Graduate programme of a top financial firm.

Desaultes…hmm I think I applied to Mcgill for its reputation and francais. But seriously, Queens and Western would give you way more opportunities.

Seriously, I really wonder what some people are thinking when they post on this board.

The original poster stated that he/she is thinking of working in Asia post-graduation. I can tell you that most employers simply don’t care whether you graduated from McGill, Queens, Western or wherever when they assess your application. This whole if I attend (insert name of university here) it will somehow open doors and land that dream job at an elite firm is mostly bunk.

Sure, the Ivies are a separate deal but those colleges aside your overall resume at time of graduation is much more important.

Remember that a lot of people who post on this board are themselves high school kids who are mostly repeating what others have posted. Then there are the current students who are equally ignorant when it comes to actually landing a job in the real world.

Whichever Canadian college you attend (if you intend to work in Asia) you need to maximise your college experience, get some relevant internships, a decent GPA and arm yourself with a positive attitude and then go for it.

You can be sure that those spending their time whinging and whining about factors outside their control on this BB are not people to emulate.

i got accpeted to mcgill and decided to go there. ill just try to work hard and get a good GPA then

Congratulations!

Work hard play hard and don’t forget your warm clothing.
