Im doing the IB diploma and those are the only courses i’m taking and I dont get any concrete grades until after the end of Senior year so how is my GPA calculated for junior year since im doing IB and want to apply to American universities?
Thanks!
You need to ask your Guidance Counselor; that’s a very school-specific question.
My daughter went to one school 9-10 grades with 0-100 grading. Then she went to another and did an IB Diploma for 11-12 grades which is 0-7. Never knew what her 4.0 scale GPA was…colleges figure it out. The only time there was an issue was for our State Flagship which awards scholarships based on GPAs , but a quick email sorted that out. So send your transcript and the college will figure it out.
While I didn’t do full IB diploma, I did do 4 classes (English Lang&lit HL , History of Americas HL,Bio HL, and Chem SL). It is school specific on which classes get a ‘bump’ but I know my HL courses did get a bump I think both years but my SL course did not get a bump since it was one year. American universities tend to only honor HL, but if you plan on testing all courses SL can be honored. To calculate GPA, ask your guidance counselor or go on the IB organization website to see their policy or if they have a calculator.
