How is Rochester, NY?

Thanks for all the hotel suggestions, I'll check them out...I was looking at the Hyatt in downtown because my dad is a diamond member with them so I was thinking of asking him to come along so we can use his points...

I asked where Pittsford was precisely because I found out there's a Cheesecake Factory there! I wouldn't mind waiting for that place at all. By the way, how is the public transportation system in Rochester? Is it safe or efficient? I was thinking of using it on the weekends to explore the city or whatnot, since I won't be having a car on campus, unless I want to make the cross-country drive!

es222 - I have to agree although not having lived in Rochester, but Cleveland. Lake effect snow and below freezing temps. . .S auditioned at Eastman, liked the school, hated the weather. And March sometimes isn't the end of the cold and snow (as this year proves!)

Okay I live like literally around the corner from Cheesecake Factory. Not very hard to find- in the same plaza as Pittsford Wegmans! It's right on Monroe Avenue (buses run on it) and between French Rd and Clover St. You cannot miss it. You're definitely not allowed to miss Wegmans. :)

I'm sorry that I don't know more about public transportation... never had to use them... :/ Pittsford is definitely a nice town (as long it's around village/Monroe Ave area). I've heard that RIT students do use it on regular basis.

But I would be VERY careful at night in downtown Rochester...

And yes, Rochester has those kinds of winter where it's just...blahhhhh where's spring?! The lake effect weather there doesn't let snow stay on ground for too long (unlike CNY where I am :D having a fantastic winter!)

I personally don't think that the winters are that bad here. I guess it gets kind of boring around now but I don't care. Today was one of the sunny days where you looked and said, "It's got to be warmer than 30 degrees."
