on the admission website, i requested a major change from cse to software engineering. how is uci's software engineering?

You will be one of the first in the program! While essentially no new courses are being created for the degree (it’s a repackaging of existing course offerings), the first group starts Fall 2012.

Based on what I know about the courses and UCI’s graduate program in SE I am hopeful it will be a very good program. I like how there is reasonable room in terms of electives compared to CSE. Alone I think the program revolves around software from too much of a “high level” for me. Also, fyi, I don’t believe there will be any attempts to make SE an accredited engineering degree (unlike CSE, which is expected to be separately accredited as both a CS and CE program).

I am very interested in adding SE to my CSE degree but they will not let me do so until the upcoming Fall quarter.

Could you please elaborate this more …I didn’t understand it completely. If I complete MS in software engineering which degree I will get ?

Thanks

i think i will get a degree in comp sci cus its more broad and i can do much more stuff with that while software engineering degree just focuses on one haha

Sorry for the super late response. It probably doesn’t matter much now, but to clarify, this thread is about the Software Engineering (B.S.) degree, which is new and different than the existing M.S. degree. As for accredited programs, you can take a look at [Accredited Programs details](http://main.abet.org/aps/AccreditedProgramsDetails.aspx?OrganizationID=5764).

Just wondering how it went for you. I got in for Software Engineering at Irvine for the class of 2020, but i dont know too much about it.
