Thanks for answering..........

Sophy, your best bet would be to contact Dr. Asai directly for any specific questions http://www.biology.hmc.edu/index.html Click the link on the left for people then biology faculty then David Asai. Son had Dr. Asai and says he's a great teacher, very approachable (but he's also well known as a tough grader).

For other info on the major, cross-registering courses at Pomona or the other 5Cs, etc., use those links.

The dept. has a number of interdisciplinary majors and seems to be on the rise in general. Here's a link to the new biochem major: http://www.chem.hmc.edu/www_common/chemistry/curriculum/joint.html

I know there are opportunities in that dept. for student research during the year and in the summer; and seniors either do a research thesis or a clinic project. The dept. is small, I think about 12 majors per class. Last year, one biochem major won both an NSF and a Hertz fellowship for grad study. Another bio major was an NSF honorable mention. A math-bio major won a Watson fellowship.

Thank you so much.

From the people that I know at HMC. the biology department is excellent and there is a ton of interaction among professors and students.
