At the moment, Harvey Mudd is absolutely my first choice, as I love their school culture, difficult academics, and pretty much everything else.

I'll almost certainly majoring in biology (or biochem, maybe) which seems, well, neglected, in comparison to engineering/physics/math/etc. Research seemed somewhat limited, because there were so few professors. Do any current or former students know what classes, research, etc. are like for bio majors?

I was a math major, but the bio professors were among my favorites. Yeah, there are less of them, but they’re all amazing and really helpful. It’s true that there is more limited research, but it is quite easy to do research and/or independent study with all of them. And if you’re interested in something that HMC doesn’t have, the profs are all really proactive and helpful with making sure your interest is satisfied, either through independent study or something else - for example, I was really interested in phylogenetics and algorithms, but no one at Mudd really does that. My evolutionary biology professor somehow remembered that after the course was over and emailed me about phylogenetics opportunities without any prompting or asking from me. Smaller department certainly doesn’t mean worse or neglected.

And overall I don’t think you can go wrong at Mudd. It’s an amazing institution with strong academics everywhere.
