Sooooo, I got into Haverford, and I want to go more than anything. ANd my family and I have heard that the financial aid is actually quite good, becasue Haverford really wants to take the best students despite financial concerns, and they have a need-blind admission policy. There's no way without a sizable amount of financial aid could my parents afford it, I'd have to take out lots of loans from somewhere.

Haverford also says that it is committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated need. So I'm actually really hopeful that the school will be able to make it doable, but I'm just curious...

Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated.

Did you not receive your finaid package with your acceptance? my S is a junior so maybe things have changed. Haverford does give 100% demonstrated financial need. I have found that the number we get on the EFC on the FASFA is very close to what we actually wind up getting from the school. Congratulations!

thanks! and the financial aid package is sent out in mid-April

They must have changed the process. Best of luck to you!

We got our financial aid package from Haverford today. They gapped us horribly, and they are the ONLY school that did that. We can’t afford what FAFSA says we can, but even worse, Haverford says we can afford a lot more.

I thought they pledged to meet 100% of need, and that was why they give no merit aid or athletic scholarships. But their web site says “decisions are made according to a need-based allocation formula developed by the College”. Whatever their formula is, it is very different from the other 20 schools my twins applied to this year. I feel like we have been mislead.

I would call and speak to Martha in the finid office. She has been wonderful and very supportive to us over the past three years. I am surprised that they offered you less need based finaid than other schools. I wonder if some of the other schools offered your twins merit. My D attends the Claremont Colleges who also pays 100% demonstrated need and the two packages were the same. I hope that Martha can help you.
