Does anybody know?

with your acceptance packet.

quick lunch break. here you go. hc web page has pretty much every answer you need or # for you to call if you have ?s. this is from them...

"Financial aid decisions for students applying for Regular Decision to the Class of 2010 and all those admitted Early Decision who applied late for financial aid will be mailed on or about April 3, 2006."

Oooh, that makes me feel better. I was getting worried since there was nothing in my acceptance package about finaid.

sorry about the confusion caz of me. I was accepted early last year...so got confused.

i just got my financial aid today. it's awesome. but i didn't know the school was 47k a year. that's really expensive.

jees! 47,000...
i wasn't expecting that. this year's tuition/room/board was 41,000 and usually with 5.5% increases each year (as it has been the pattern for the last 5 years or so),.. i was expecting 43-44K for next year... not 47,000 eeek! well, i'll just need more financial aid i guess. did the 47,000 amount include non-tuition/room board expenses like for travel and other stuff as well? I'm pretty much hoping to go to either pomona or haverford at this point and a lot of it depends on $$ :(

it was 44270 for room/board and tuition plus books and something for 600.

then...

they factored in 2000+ for personal expenses as well as a ton for traveling fees, which comes out to... about 47K

Ouch. Just got my financial aid package today. It's HORRIBLE. I'm so disappointed ... my dad almost certainly won't let me go to Haverford now, and I was really really interested in going there ...

i have a similar problem too... haverford and pomona are my 2 clear favorites but another good school (wesleyan) gave me more aid. i got good advice that i should let either haverford or pomona know that i would choose them if their aid was better (write a nice letter and forward details of the other school's package to them). if you really like haverford a lot and would go there if they matched more generous support, you should let haverford know this to see if they will increase their aid to you...

I received my financial aid package as well. It wasn't very generous at all. My efc for Haverford was 10 times that of my fafsa efc. I received full aid from Macalester and Muhlenberg. I am planning to appeal the decision though. So I should write a letter explaining my circumstances and send maybe a copy of Macalester's offer?

Wow, my financial aid package was really great. Everyone here is kind of worrying me, though. The reason my EFC was so low this year was because we lost our house and business in Katrina. I'm kind of worried about next year, when our EFC will probably be a lot higher... :/

I'm going to appeal, but I'm not hopeful of success. Their letter said only a third of their students get grant aid. A third is NOT very many ... and I doubt I fall into the least privileged third of their incoming class. I hope not, anyway. Still, getting NO grant aid is going to kill my hopes of going there. Princeton and Carleton will both give me several thousand in grants, and we'll pay about $9000 less per year for each school.

I don't know Haverford has been able to keep up its quality with such terrible financial aid. It's really disappointing.

pastariffic-
on the bright side, you were accepted into princeton! some people would pay an additional 9000... or 20000 above and beyond just to get off their waitlist (such as one of my friends)! fortunately, my aid package at haverford, like pomona, was "good" but just not as nice as wes. bowdoin actually gave me nothing and we are so far from wealthy :( go figure. 9000 seems like a huge difference in aid between "similar" schools... at least it makes your decision maybe somewhat easier :). for me the difference between wes> haverford>pomona is 4000 thousand, so i have to figure out (if i don't get an aid adjustment) if paying more and stressing my parents a little more is worth it in the end... sometimes no, other times, maybe ?

congrats on princeton!

Thanks, wok the line! I am excited about all the schools I got into, so I should be grateful that there is less of a choice ... Princeton is just a larger school than I wanted to go to. But yeah, it's hard to give up on a school because of aid, but when your parents are paying, you often have to do that! Pomona and Haverford are both schools I really loved, and I don't know much about Wesleyan, but I'm sure with good aid you'll be able to make the choice that's best for you. Good luck, and of course, congratulations :-)

yeah but for princeton, you GRADUATE WITH NO LOANS!!!

that's going to be awesome if you go to grad school, which was what i was planning to do. but it's ultimately, i think, more where you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Yeah ... no loans ... no work/study ... every school needs an endowment like Princeton's!
