How LGBT friendly is OU?

I'm not gay, but I'm gender non-conforming, and I'm really open minded and liberal. It's important that I go to a school that is LGBT friendly. I checked out OU's Ally page on Facebook and it seems to be pretty active. I also heard they have 13 gender neutral bathrooms on campus? Is this true?

My concern is just that a lot of people think I'm a lesbian, and I'm dating a boy who will be with me, and I don't want to get harassed or anything. I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be a problem, but I just want to make sure...

Also I've read other threads about this, but they were older, and I wanted a more recent opinion about this.

Naylien, I’m guessing that, like me, the other posters here aren’t familiar with how LGBT-friendly OU is. In general, Oklahoma is a conservative state. I’m not sure about the campus, but I can tell you that my daughter and her friends who will be attending are liberal, open-minded, and LGBT friendly. I hope you have a good experience at OU.

I live in Oklahoma and have visited OU multiple times. I doubt you will be harrassed, but a majority of the people on campus are you “Young Republican” types who have never missed church on Sunday. That being said, not eveybody is like that and Oklahoma City is very close and a more liberal place.

This thread’s kinda old, but I’m a student at OU and an out and visible lesbian. Overall, the experience has been great. Not everyone’s cool, but most people don’t say anything and the LGBT community is awesome. I hold hands with my girlfriend all over campus and Norman and sometimes get weird looks but I’m never worried about my safety. So I’d say it’s pretty LGBT-friendly-- as long as you hang out with the right crowd. It’s a big school, after all.
