Mine was originally more than a 1000 but I cut it down to 889. I really don’t want to get rid of anymore since I worked hard on it and all of it is relevant.

Mine tuned out to be around 690 words

684 with header (name, dob, common app ID #)
622 (the actual essay)
Try to keep it between 500 and 750, I remember hearing in an Info session (maybe Yale?) that after a certain point they will stop reading if it is TOO long. Remember these admissions officers are reading a freakish amount of applications. They will value something concise and to the point :)

I ended up with two essays for the various schools because I was able to manipulate them to go with the school’s supplement.

One of them was 577 words, and the other was 547. For all of my schools that did not specify a word limit, I put my own limit of around 500-600 words.

My D’s essay (she just got accepted ED last week so we are done–never even sent another application) was exactly 490 words.

Mine’s 764 words.

My personal statment is just over a 1000 words, but I showed it to both my counselor and my english teacher and they assured me that it wouldn’t be a problem.

Mine is around 1100… I can’t cut it any further… I started off with around 1600

mines 633 words… did people title their essay?

I have 760 -ish. I titled one of my supps, but not the common app

Mine was about 700-ish words… got accepted to all my EA schools. I think as long as you have good content and are not redundant, you should be golden. :D

mine is 1100.

I titled my common app but not the supplement essays.

mine is 505, which is hardly very long, but it seemed right for it.

mine is exactly 761 words.

I was a bit concerned because I wrote about three events in mine (started with 5 which made it a 1000 words) so I could have cut down but chose not to. I have no idea how good an essay it is… I’m kind of freaking out.

Mine’s 900 exactly.

Mine’s 331 words long, but I like it

About 600 words

Mine’s 577 words
