Mine’s…686, I think.

To summarize: 600-700 is perfect

For Stanford, Pomona, Uni of Chicago, Brown, etc., it was 1150 words long.
For Yale, I made it much better and cut it down to 900. :)

My common app was an explination of my charecter and personality, and someone said it before, it’s also the essay used to judge your writing abilites. I had mine at 1127 words, but all in small paragraphs like this:

“Like any kid with ADHD, I could have just been the class clown. But I wanted to be something more something better, and my persistence in pursuing this goal is what I am most proud of. On my progress reports, my teachers said that not only was I intelligent, but I cared about the classes and showed it, making me one of their favorite students. That acknowledgment alone is something I hold as one of my greatest accomplishments.”

(as for plagiarizers, though I doubt there’s really any malicious people like that on here…hopefully… I already submitted the essay, so I’m all good)

Anyways, I used these small paragraphs so that the admin officers could jump quickly and easily spot to spot, good idea to good idea. I made sure to add a LITTLE purple prose in, to show off my intelligence and writing skill. But I kept all my supplement essays, spot on, on the line perfect, 500-700 words each.

782 with title.

It goes by quickly though :).

I had two alternate ones about difft topics: One was 839, one 631. I cut both down from over 1000 words… as a general (not all-inclusive) rule I would try under 850~900

mine is 633 words long :)

900 words give or take a few

1100 words

mine’s 900 words! :)

Mines a thousand but, it explains a good deal about me !! =)

650 of pure brilliance. :)

917…■■■…

I submitted mine with 927 words (2.5 pages double-spaced), and I absolutely loved it. I had everyone that I could find read it, and no one mentioned anything about it being too long.

There isn’t a maximum for a reason–if after writing your essay and proofreading it dozens of times you still don’t get bored reading it, then the likelihood is that adcoms won’t either. Good luck everyone, and don’t stress! :)

around 600 words

mine neared 900, but that was cut from something much longer. I had it approved by several people.

Mine was 800. After reading a few posts on here I feel a bit better about it being that length. It seemed like a bunch of people kept theirs to ~500.

i guess mines the longest… ready?

1,650 =P =P

but… as they said… theres a ‘minimum’ limit for a reason

Personally, if I worked in admissions and got an essay that long I wouldn’t even read it. Be concise, you’re wasting their time.

If the applicant crosses 500 on a 250 word essay I’m not even gonna read it.
